Free online currency converter with live rates
Imagine Tool's currency converter turns any amount from one currency into another using the latest mid-market exchange rates. It covers about 190 codes: the world's major and minor currencies, 18 popular cryptocurrencies and four precious metals. Choose a currency by flag, code or name, press the swap button and the result updates instantly.
What you can do
- Convert between any two currencies, or see your amount in a dozen others at once.
- Chart the exchange rate over 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or a year, and look up the rate on a specific date.
- Plan a trip with a fee-aware travel budget, compare salaries across countries, estimate loan EMIs, split a tip, or value gold and silver by the gram, ounce, kilogram or tola.
- Copy, share, print or download your result as a PDF.
- Save favorite currencies and pairs. They stay in your browser only.
Mid-market rates vs the rate you get
The mid-market rate sits halfway between the buy and sell prices that banks use with each other. Retail providers normally add a margin or a fixed fee on top, so always compare the final amount you would receive. Use the fee field in the travel calculator to see how a 2–3% card or ATM charge changes your budget.
Tips for converting money
- For large transfers, check the provider's quoted rate against the mid-market rate shown here.
- Pay by card in the local currency rather than accepting dynamic currency conversion, which often carries a worse rate.
- Rates move daily. For a purchase you will make later, look at the chart to understand how volatile the pair has been.
Privacy and offline use
The converter runs in your browser. Amounts, history and favorites are stored locally, and the last rates are cached so the tool keeps working offline. Only the exchange rate data itself is downloaded from public rate providers.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate are the exchange rates?
Rates are mid-market rates from public data providers. They are suitable for planning and comparison, not for trading. Banks, card networks and money-transfer services add a margin or fee, so the amount you actually receive is usually slightly lower.
How often are the rates updated?
The free providers publish new rates about once a day, and the page checks for fresh data automatically while it is open. The exact time of the last provider update and the data source are shown under every result.
Which currencies are supported?
Around 190 codes, depending on what the providers return: world currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, INR, AED, SAR, JPY, CNY, AUD, CAD, SGD, CHF, PKR, BDT, LKR, NPR and many more, plus 18 major cryptocurrencies and gold, silver, platinum and palladium.
Does the converter work offline?
Yes, in a limited way. The last downloaded rates are saved in your browser, so you can keep converting without a connection. The status badge tells you when saved rates are being used and how old they are.
Do you store my conversions?
No. Recent conversions, favorite currencies and settings stay in your own browser storage. Nothing about your amounts is sent to our servers.
Why does the result differ from Google or my bank?
Different providers update at different times and some show buy/sell rates instead of the mid-market rate. A bank rate also includes the bank's own margin and any transfer fees.
Where does the historical chart data come from?
Charts use European Central Bank reference rates for roughly 30 major currencies. For other pairs the chart uses daily snapshots from an open currency dataset that starts in March 2024. If neither source covers a pair, the chart says so.
Can I use the gold, silver and crypto converters for trading?
No. They show indicative prices for estimating value. Dealers, jewellers and exchanges quote their own prices and add premiums, making charges, taxes and network fees.
Can I save a result as a PDF?
Yes. Press Download PDF under the result to save a one-page summary, or use Print and choose Save as PDF.
